It is with great humility that I accept the charge given to me last night by the people of Henderson and Kaufman counties. I'm honored that the voters have put their faith in me, and I will go to work every day to represent the best interests of this community. My pledge as our next State Representative is to provide the kind of steady, conservative leadership we need to tackle such tough issues as enhancing border security, lowering property taxes, stopping out-of-control spending and improving our education system.
This campaign was a simple affair which relied on individuals all over this district to spread the word to their friends and neighbors that, together, we could make a change in Austin. This is a victory for our entire community, and it would have never occurred without the good people of Henderson and Kaufman counties who believed in our cause and who worked relentlessly to play their part. business owners to the stay-at-home moms and the retired teachers, the college students, the farmers, the ranchers, the seniors and the young people, every single person who hammered in a sign, knocked on doors or worked a polling place can take credit for this victory. My gratitude to them is infinite.
I also want to thank Representative Brown for her service to us and for a spirited campaign. While we didn 't see eye-to-eye on many issues, she has served for over a decade, and I think I speak for many people in the district in expressing appreciation for her time and talents.
