ABOUT LANCE GOODEN

Republican Lance Gooden is proud to serve the citizens of Henderson and Kaufman Counties in the Texas Legislature.

Lance has deep roots in our district. He grew up in Terrell, where he lives today, and graduated from Terrell High School. After earning two degrees from the University of Texas in Finance and Government, he went to work as an insurance broker for energy and energy-related companies, negotiating for them in the insurance marketplace and helping to protect them from lawsuits and other business risks. Lance is also a life-long member of the Church of Christ, and a current member of the Rockwall and Brin Church of Christ in Terrell.

During his first session in the Texas House, Lance served on the budget-writing Appropriations Committee and the County Affairs Committee. It was not an easy session, but Lance and his colleagues addressed the $27-billion shortfall facing our state with a fiscally conservative budget that slashes wasteful spending and needless bloat of our state government, excludes new taxes and protects our Rainy Day Fund.

In addition to cutting state spending, while protecting local school districts and teachers, Lance also spent time fighting for his constituents back home. When a bill that would allow water companies like Monarch to raise customers rates without a hearing came up for debate, he stood up for his constituents and killed the bill with a point-of-order.

Lance was also able to help steer a voter ID bill into law. The bill, which requires all voters to present a valid form of photo identification before casting a ballot, had continually failed in past legislatures. He was a sponsor of the bill and was proud to see Texas finally step up to protect the integrity of our elections.
